CBR1000rr and Amritsar

Finally decided to pull out the bike on the easter weekend to a trip tot the golden temple. Rode with a Bullet 500 and FZ16. Boy it is tough i could have done it in a breeze on my 220 but on the SBK the thighs hurt and fatigue does set in after riding a bit. Also going slow ~100 is painful on the bike it is just revving to go. so i would zip off and the stop and wait :) .

the fireblade is a mileage king what can i say ride the bike on 6th gear lean on the tank keep speed in the 95-98 Kph and voilĂ  - you get 25 kmpl..and that too with ordinary fuel laced with Wayne 10+octane booster added in the ratio of 10 ml for ever 1liter of 91 octane fuel - the bike performs rather well.

Whats more the road from Beas to Amritsar is so great i zipped on 2hd gear till i hit the speed limiter at 205 kph!!!!!!

here is what else i learned it is easier on the body to ride at 130-150 with the body up the wind actually lifts you up reducing the load on your arms and thighs.

i am yet to upload the pics will do so soon.

the first service of the fireblade

so first service done oil change and washing took over 3 hr. then they ran full diagnostics for electrical.. funny all they had was a multimeter(from japan!) so cehck the battery voltage and the voltage at start that was 14.3. next they checked the rectifier (funnly the confused themselve on the location of the regulator and rectifier unit they thought it was under the tank then relized it was under the fues box after they found that they cjedk the parameters like resistance conductivity voltage (without starting the bike) .

they put everything back together only to discover ....a screw !!!! then the opend it all again to locate the lost scre which was of the coupler and RR fixed i all back tokk all of 9 hr to do this.. net result nothing wrong with electrical ..hummm must be the battery is the best they come up with..
Jaipur ride was good rather comfortable except the thighs were loaded and started to hurt after and hour or riding, guess i got to get use to that.

rand it on speed 97 and then on xtraprieumin from IOC with octane booster of STP in the ratio of 10ml per liter performance was good could not feel much of a diffrence ( most diffrence is felt on lower gear at intial acceleration) was crusing at 120-130kmph.

the road back from jaipur has become really bad with furrows in the middle of two lane due to teh truck tyers , very dangerous as the bike moves in to them and difficult to get out at high speen .

Jaipur to manaser took 3 hr then another 2hr to get to noida.

i got a suprising average of 19kmpl over the eniter journey (according to the onboard gauge reading)

the servioce cost was Rs3200 breakup is :

Labour Rs 1650/- (i think a waste considering the broke stuff then stuck parts with glue)

oilfilter was aroud Rs 900/-

Oil - honda 10w30 Rs130/- per 800ml bottle - 4 required.

plus tax.

oh and i got a HJC FS-10 helmet

battery dies on me ...bad honda

so whats bad with honda
my bike packed up on day 6 at gurgaon as the battrey died with out any warning
the honda guys came and fixed it the buffon charged it and of course 15 days later it dies again...finally the honda guys come to sense and change the battrey.
the honda guys very very helpful they sent the chap to the location to find the problem which turnd out that the battery did have have enough power to start the bike. he charger the battery and got it working again.

the big question is why did it happen - guess we would never know the bike has been running fine since.

Rode it last night and have starter to open the throttle a little more , normally i ride around 3-4k rpm thats 96kmph on top gear.

i have a tendency to quickly upshift the gear on the sound based on my past riding experence (since this engine sounds much faster hence the quicker shifting) aslo it make the accelration slower and more managable.

pushed it yesterday to 7k rpm on second(or 3rd-4th gear as i could not make out i drive by the sound and stuff was happening so fast) gear the front started to lift off the ground a bit, a really amazing feeling - it wasnt like a clutch wheelie pop up but it just started to lift of very gently like an aircraft taking off, i ofcourse reduce the throttel immediatly and all this at just 60kmph but at a mind numbing accelration the kind you can feel in your stomach. My mind and boday are still adapting to the

phew !!! this bike feels so much safer than my p220 as it is more stable stops faster and you can drive at 4kmph in traffic jams will much lesser strain.
on the comfort factor only the first day getting the bike back i had a little pain in the lower back and wrist but that was more because i was really tensed up, havent had that since, but then again havent ridding for more that 40km at a stretch although once that 40km took me 1.5hr.
one more thing the bike has a milage meter that shows current kmpl, average kmpl since last refile which resets every time you refuel..(that is so cool) so i am getting 14.8kmpl (this is a common question)

much ado about something

first off this bike is really small
in fact really tiny here is a comparative pic just to make it look larger that my roomate Gaurav on the bike note that the sunny was put further back in the pic to make it look smaller :)

so that was day 1 of getting the bike filled it up and riding it back from nariana to Noida filled her up with speed97 (if you are in south delhi there are plenty of pumps around)

currenty was wearing Fieldsheer jacket on the sunny  with elbow, shoulder and back armour been using it for over a year even on my p220 -rarely leave home without it very comfortable give you a secure feeling while riding

I stongly recomend it for all bikers not just the sbk lot sa you can see in the pic

Cats make great shoes althought not complet ankle protection but again for regular biking very good i have had a car drive over my foot when standing at traffic light!!! , and i have Bieffe helmet which i quite snug.

so currenly i am using the regular gear.

the bike is very addictive you feel like riding it every dayfirst 3 days did 250km finish a full tank of fuel rode on the famous greater noida expressway

here are some pics on the express way

Honda CBR 1000rr '09 fireblade

finally decide to put finger to keyboard and try and write about my lovely blade's ownership experience which has been a mixed one. After a long wait ~8year to buy a superbike i could finally achive the dream. Yes i bought it with my own money that i earned over the 8 year period i worked as a software engg proejct manger types. So allthouse who plan to save to buy a super bike , start saving its is a possiblity. Anyway, so i paid the money and the setup a Honda saftey course at thier Manesar plant (see Fireblah's thread on the same. it was very well conducted the diffrence was i had requested for a ride on a fireblade as well and they arranged that for me my dream bike the Honda Fireblade 2007 model in my dream color of red and black (will upload pics later)

at the end after a week or so of pushed delivery dates (3 time delayed beasue it was that dusherra period i finally get my delivery on the 30th of Sep 09
Sep 09

They guys at the showroom were very helpful and explained all functions of the bike amist a huge crowd of onlookers

that is the senior tech Mr Ashok. Then i took the bike for my first ride ever on the traffice road of nariana with great flutter in my belly

thankfully the honda saftey program helped a lot and gave me the comfort factor to ride the bike

they gave me a lovely leather keycase and 5 liter of petrol to have me on my way and i was off taking the bike back home....

This is a really comfortable bike , smooth handels very well brakes efficently and you can comfortable chugg along at extreamly low speeds without any problems.(as long as u are a mature and sensible rider)

Yes it heats up quite a bit when it is new esp at the right foot and subsequently along the entier body but never at an uncomfortable level even in peak traffic conditions.

Delivery...its a blade

Alas the time came where the much promised any many over slipped delivery date arrived. Burdened by the series of unfortunate events (more on that later) a great deal of fear and superstations decided I better get her home. Finally my trusty wingman was able to scrape some time off bad CRC errors and accompany me on what was to be a ride of great skepticism and generic disinterest from noida to nariana Attired in knee guards loaned by Lokesh (something borrowed) and dressed in field sheer jackets (something old) and a bieffe helmet (something new) the traffic seemed all out to get you. As tiring as an endower can be riding in mid afternoon traffic on a week day across the entirety of south Delhi, we rode on. With cribs from me "how the hell can I drive in this traffic with the superbike" and reassurance from Amit "dude! Don’t be scared I am sure you will handle it" we finally reached the land of the Holy Grail the Honda bike showroom.

The bike on display today had a number plate (humm interesting I say) warmly greeted by the staff at Honda only to be informed that this is the last Fireblade to be sold from the current lot the next would arrive only a couple of months later and it was mine....

The first ride and dispelling other myths.. Coming soon.

and the wait start

so finally thought i should start a blog, been thinkging of putting down my rides (on varoius bikes) for a really long time figuers i should give back a littel as i have used may a blog to plan my trip.
never got over my ass.
so finally achived a milestone in my life and took the decision to realize my dream(as honda puts it the power of dreams)
many years of stinging and saving for the one day when law of the land will aligne to the corporates of teh globe and the brand pushers to make a favorable point in time when india too shall rise to bring in the ridiculas and the unimaginable. The superbike..
2008 saw the transformation with Yamaha R1 getting a homogleation done(localizing or adpting to the local law) with a saree gurd was the first in late 07, the gov followed suite with permiting ONLY bikes above 800cc so all those who thinks indian road an not suitable for powerful bikes think again because Indian government does think so.
thus started the influx of flagship models by Ducati, Suzuki and finall on 2nd march 09 the Honda.
